Barbara Ann Colf Obituary

Barbara Ann (Black) Colf passed away peacefully on March 11, 2026. She was born on June 22,1933, to Kenneth L. and Elsie M. (Crotty) Black in Oneonta, NY. She was the oldest of three; her sister, Marilyn, and her brother, David, predeceased her. Barbara graduated from Oneonta High School in 1951 and from Hartwick College in 1955. On December 11, 1955, she was wed to her beloved husband, Harold E. Colf, in the Hartwick College Chapel. Barbara and Harold were blessed with five children: Terence, Deborah, Michael, Anne, and Bruce (who predeceased her). Barbara and her family lived in Fort Worth, TX, Cheyenne, WY, Oneonta, Rockwells Mills, and Bainbridge.



Barbara's teaching career spanned a number of decades; most recently, she taught business classes at Mount Upton Central School and at DCMO BOCES, retiring in 1991. She and Harold traveled the country and camped with their children and friends during the summer months. They could often be found playing cards with friends and family. Barbara was particularly fond of playing dominoes with Harold and Ticket to Ride with family. Barbara's favorite activities were attending Broadway shows and major/minor league baseball games. Some of Barbara's hobbies were knitting, needlework, playing solitaire, and reading books. She was involved with various ministries and roles at her two churches, St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Bainbridge, NY, and St. Richard's Episcopal Church in Winter Park, FL. In their retirement, Barbara and Harold enjoyed traveling, going on cruises, and they wintered in Fern Park, Florida. They loved to host family and friends in their Florida home and at their various timeshares.



Barbara and Harold recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on December 11, 2025, with their children and while FaceTiming with their grandchildren.



Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Harold, and her children, Terence (Barbara M.) Colf, Deborah Swann, Michael (Yvonne) Colf, Anne Shaw, and Darla (Bruce) Crandall. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Rebecca (Alex) Cude, Rachel (Brian) Atkins, Molly (Scott) Hall, Jessica (Ken) Echard, Cassandra (Tyler) Narby, Michael (Tori) LaBarr, Emily (Max Body-Maffei) Swann, Nathan Swann, and Bethany (Zachary) Ozolins and 16 great-grandchildren.



A funeral will take place at 1 PM on Sunday, March 22, 2026, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, 1 Church Street, Bainbridge, NY 13733. The service will be followed by a reception in the church's Guild Hall. There will be no calling hours. A burial will take place at a later date.
