Martin F. Cornish Obituary
Martin Franklin Cornish, 68, of Bainbridge, NY, passed away on February 27, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on September 16, 1957, in Wellsville, New York, Marty spent the majority of his life in Bainbridge, where he built not just a home, but a legacy of family, friendship, and community. He proudly served as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps from 1977 to 1981.
After his military service, Marty worked as a machinist for Amphenol before spending more than 20 years as a long-haul truck driver. No matter how many miles he traveled, home was always where his heart was.
Marty was the life of the party and the loudest voice in the stands at his sons’ sporting events. He never met a stranger and welcomed anyone into the Cornish home at any time.
He was a loyal husband to his beloved wife of 20 years, Michele G. Cornish.
He is also survived by: his sons, Matthew D. Cornish (Emily), Chad M. Cornish (Abigail), and Shane P. Cornish (Melissa); his grandchildren, Lylah, Harmony, Daenerys, Cayden, Maddox, and Willa; his mother, Alura J. Fleming; sister, Camilla Morris; brother, Chris Cornish; in-laws, Martha and Chuck Gardner; uncle, William Grossman (Joan); aunt, Barbara Hart; four nephews: Robert Morris, Charlie Morris (Gina), Derek Cornish (Courtney) and Garrett Newell; and grandnephew, Colton Morris. He will also be missed by Michael Palmetier and Jeff Dean, dear friends that helped take care of Marty along with his brother, Chris.
He was preceded in death by his fathers, Franklin Cornish and Sam Fleming, uncle Lt. Col. Robert Grossman, and his cat, Annabelle.
Calling hours will be held Sunday, March 8th, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY 13838, with a 3:00pm Military Honors Ceremony courtesy of the American Legion.
