Sarah Dotey, of Sidney Center, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, February 15, at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY.
Sarah was born on June 4, 1989, at Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital in Binghamton, NY, to Edward Dotey and Linda Fields-Dotey of Sidney Center, NY.
She graduated from Sidney High School in 2007 and went on to dedicate her life to caring for others. Sarah worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and worked at Springbrook, serving individuals with compassion and commitment. Most recently, she provided in-home care support, continuing her life's work of helping families in their time of need.
Sarah was kind, loving, and had the biggest heart. She was full of life and truly lived it to the fullest. With a quick sense of humor and a laugh like no other, she brought light into every room she entered. She lived a life of service always helping, always caring, always putting others before herself. She could make friends with strangers and was loved by so many. No matter the circumstance, Sarah always wore a smile.
She loved the outdoors camping with friends, kayaking, fishing, and spending time at the pond with her beloved dogs. She also loved to cook and found joy in preparing meals for family and friends, bringing people together around the table with the same warmth and generosity that defined her life. Sarah was creative at heart; she loved taking pictures, painting and making crafts for family and friends, often giving handmade gifts that will now be cherished keepsakes. She had a special love for animals, especially her dogs, Malici (Mali) and Chole. Her ability to overcome adversity and face challenges with courage has been and will forever remain an inspiration to all who knew her. Through every adversity, Sarah's spirit remained unshakable.
Sarah is survived by her life partner; Jon Poss; her parents, Edward Dotey and Linda Fields-Dotey of Sidney Center, NY; her sisters, Misty Fields of Sidney Center, NY, Ashley VanValkenburgh (Dakota) of Sidney Center, NY, and Rachel Dotey of Oneonta, NY.
She was predeceased by her beautiful son, Payton Poss; her cherished dogs, Malici (Mali) and Chole; and her grandmothers, June Fields and Dorothea (Dot) Ward (Lauren).
A graveside service will be held at Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center, NY, in the spring. There will also be a kayaking run in celebration of her life later in the spring; the family will share details at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sidney Center Ladies Auxiliary or the Delaware Valley Humane Society.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff of Westchester Medical Center for the compassionate and excellent care provided during Sarah's final days.
Sarah's love, laughter, strength, generosity, and light will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
