Karen Jones Obituary

Karen E. Jones of Franklin passed away on January 15th at the age of 69. She was born on February 12, 1956, to Bob and Jackie Stage.

Karen graduated from Sidney High School, Class of 1974, and went on to earn her degree in early childhood education from the SUNY Oneonta in 1978. She worked at Gelder Medical in Sidney, followed by employment with Dr. Lusins in Oneonta, and later taught for many years at The Cullman Center.

In more recent years, Karen was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church Choir and the Fiber Arts Guild. As a member of Covers of Love, she made quilted sleeping bags for the homeless. Karen enjoyed creating a wide variety of arts and crafts, which she generously shared with others, and especially loved creating alongside her grandchildren. She was well known for her gardening, cross-stitch work, cards and beautiful handmade quilts. She even was a member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics, flying model planes with the Oneonta RC Flyers.

Karen is survived by her son, John (Amanda); her grandchildren, Serenity and Lucas; her sister, Lyn Winston; her brother, Larry Stage (Danette); and her brothers-in-law, Mark Jones (Verna) and David Jones (Karen). She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Mike Jones; her parents; her in-laws, Ted and Doris Jones; her sister, Bobbie Stage; and niece, Jennifer Sampsen.

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital for the excellent care provided during Karen's final days. A special thank you is also extended to her dear friend, Fran Puffer, for her many visits and kindness.

A service will be held on Thursday, January 29, at 1:00 p.m. at The Red Door First United Presbyterian Church of Oneonta.
