Sharon C. Cutting Obituary

COVENTRYVILLE – Sharon Lynne Comings Cutting, 77, of County Route 27, was welcomed into Glory Tuesday morning, Jan. 6, from her beloved home on Comyncroft, where she had lived almost all of her life.

She was born Aug. 6, 1948, in Sidney, a daughter and second of five children to Philip C. and Pauline (Poole) Comings. She graduated from Afton Central School in 1966, where she returned for a post-graduate year before going on to The King's College, formerly of Briarcliff Manor, and finished her bachelor's degree in elementary education at SUNY Oneonta.

She married Richard M. Cutting on Aug. 24, 1968, at the First Baptist Church in Afton. They were married 56 years. Dick, who was her beloved champion, died Sept. 28, 2024.

Growing up on a family farm, Shary learned the value of hard work as she pitched in with tending the farm's flock of sheep and helped with household chores, especially honing her skills in the kitchen. She was later known for her sweet rolls and cookies. She loved her lambs and enjoyed showing sheep at the county and state fairs.

She taught second grade at Oxford Academy and Central School for 27 years, retiring on disability due to the ongoing progression of her multiple sclerosis, which she endured with grace and dignity for 47 years. She was a kind but firm teacher and taught many children how to read using phonics.

Shary accepted Jesus as her Savior as a child and walked with Him all of her life. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Afton, then the Berean Bible Church in Greene. After her disease had crippled her to the point of not being able to do anything she decided to up her game and became a prayer warrior and encourager for people near and far, including many missionaries around the world. She was a very private person and never dwelt on her issues, but wanted to know what she could pray about for others.

She enjoyed her flowers and the birds that she could see out her living room window, was a voracious reader, and listening to lovely music.

She is survived by her two sons and their families - Brian and Becci Cutting of Unadilla, with grandchildren, Noah, Aidan and wife Jewel, Gabriel, and EmmaLeigh; and Joel and Bethany Cutting of Vestal, with grandchildren, Grantham and Amelia.

Also surviving are two brothers, Patrick Comings, Troutman, N.C., and Timothy (Leslie) Comings, French Camp, MS; and two sisters, Laurie (Stephen) Jones, Ellisburg, and Deborah (Timothy) Vroman, Bainbridge; three aunts, Anne Thomas, Sackets Harbor, Mary Douglas, Towanda, PA, and Judy Poole, Johnson City; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Rose Mazzarella of Sidney, Florence (John) Strong of Norwich, and Elizabeth (Fred) Vroman of NY and FL, and a brother-in-law, Glen (Sharon) Cutting of Sidney.

Brian & Joel would like to thank mom's wonderful caregivers, particularly those who served her since her husband passed away. A special thank you to Lisa Shearer for almost two decades of service. Thanks also to Shaun Von Legan; Alexis Sousa and Crystal Wilewski who gave her such wonderful care in her final months.

Donations in memory of Sharon can be given to Samaritan's Purse; Family Life Network (radio); or her church Berean Bible Church.

Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at C.H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main St., Sidney, N.Y.

A Celebration of Shary's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Berean Bible Church, 109 County Road 2, Greene.
