Catherine Marie Odell Obituary

Catherine Marie Westcott Odell, 92, originally of Mt. Upton, New York, passed away at Chase Memorial Nursing Home, New Berlin, New York on January 4, 2026. Catherine was born July 1, 1933 in Lebanon, New York. She was the daughter of the late Irving W. Westcott and Katherine (Faulkner) Westcott.


Catherine lived her early years in Cazenovia, Randallsville, West Eaton, Munnsville and Sherburne. At the age of 14 she moved to Mt. Upton, New York. While in school she also waitressed at The Old Mill Restaurant in Mt. Upton and in the summers at Crest Park in Windham, New York. She graduated from Mt. Upton Central School in June of 1951. On November 1, 1951 she married the boy next door, Carlton (Tone) Phillips Odell. Cathy was a devoted housewife and mother. She was a Girl Scout leader for five years, a member of the Unadilla Valley Historical Society and the Guilford Historical Society. Cathy had an avid interest in family history and genealogy. Cathy served 14 years as Vice President of the Godfrey Cemetery and then another 39 years as its President. She loved visiting with her elderly neighbors, reading to them and spending time with them to put a smile on their faces. Later in life she enjoyed being with her family and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She enjoyed going on rides to reminisce about her childhood and pointing out all the places she lived growing up.


Catherine was predeceased by her husband of sixty years, Carlton Phillips Odell, and her brothers and sisters: Charles, Harry, Frances, Phyllis, Mary, Lillian, Leroy, Caroline and Delores.


She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-law: Debra and Edward Sebris of Newcastle, Ontario, Canada; Donna and Michael Winchester of Mt. Upton, New York; Brenda and Christopher Marks of Guilford, New York; and Wendy and Dale Thompson of Sherburne, New York and also her former sons-in-law William Welch of Norwich, New York and Mark Killmeier of Morris, New York. She is also survived by her ten grandchildren: Eric and (Chantel Agpaoa) Welch; Brian and (Katie) McFadden-Welch; Callie and (Arthur) Carlyle; Megan Winchester; Matthew and (Lauren) Marks; Mary Marks and (Aaron Wilcox); Scott and (Vicki) Marks; Laura and (Andrew) Markzman; Alexander Killmeier; Katie Killmeier and (YC Walton). She is also survived by her six great grandchildren: Riley, Sophie, Carter, Iris, Ambrose and Xavier.


Her family would like to thank Chase Memorial Nursing Home for the wonderful compassionate care they provided our mother during her final days.


Calling hours will be Saturday, January 17th from 2 pm to 4 pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main Street, Sidney, New York. Burial services will be held at Godfrey Cemetery in the spring.
