Donald L. Butler, 88, of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Chestnut Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Oneonta. He was born on December 12, 1936, in Madison, Wisconsin, to Philip and Florence (Burke) Butler.

Don met his future wife, Lynette (Clark) in 1958 at the Massena roller skating rink. They spent the next 67 years building a legacy together. In 1962 they left the Massena NY area and moved to Long Island where they spent the following 32 years building a life and raising a family, before settling in Sidney, NY in 1994.

Don was a volunteer fireman for 15 years for the exempts in Long Beach, NY and a 50+ year member of the Benevolent Fireman's Association. He coached many youth sports, including hockey and softball. Don loved all sports. He loved to play and watch them, either live or on TV. He was a huge fan of John Wayne and old-fashioned country western movies. He loved hunting and being outdoors, especially on his mountain (camp) in Sidney Center.

Don was a true family man. He loved spending time with his wife, 4 children and 12 grandchildren. He also loved going back to Wisconsin for high school reunions.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Philip and Florence Butler and brothers: Fred, Raymond and Merlin Butler.

Don is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lynette Butler, Sidney NY; his four children; Randy Butler of Mt Pleasant SC, Joe (Rita) Butler of Island Park NY, Christine (Richard) Wright of Sidney, NY and Kerri (Tim) Monroe of Sidney, NY. Don is also survived by his 12 grandchildren: Terezia Tarantino, Philip, Barry and Lucas Butler, Thomas, Patrick, and William Wright, Emily and Doug Butler, Kaleb, Gabe and Jack Monroe, as well as 5 great grandchildren.

Friends may call at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel on Saturday, December 27, 2025 from 2:00-4:00pm and conclude with a time of sharing. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Don's memory may be directed to the Sidney Fire Department, or a local Fire Department of one's choice.
