SIDNEY- Howard J. Chamberlin passed away at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford on November 15, 2025.
Howard was born January 17, 1933 in Sidney, son of Edwin R. and Clare (Sands) Chamberlin.
He grew up in Unadilla and was a 1952 graduate of Unadilla Central School. He attended MVCC before and after serving in the US Army, graduating in 1956.
Howard worked briefly out of the area, returning in 1960 to an accounting position at ECD Bendix (now Amphenol), Sidney.
On March 2, 1962, he married Pauline Benson in Unadilla.
With a fondness for music, he at one time was a member of the Scintilla Mens Chorus and made the trip with them to Kichener, Ontario for the "Big Sing". He was also the bass player for many local bands providing entertainment at weddings, bar mitzvahs, New Years Eve, etc.
Howard was an avid golfer and bowler, inducted in 1996 to the Tri-County Bowling Hall of Fame.
He was a long time member of the New York State Archaeology Association (Roland B. Hill Museum) and could often be found working at their funnel cake concession during the Bainbridge Canoe Regatta.
After retirement from Bendix in 1986, he worked in maintenance until 2003 at the Sidney Senior Village.
An avid collector, he could also be found at auctions, antique shows and flea markets.
Howard enjoyed local sports and attended many of the high school football and basketball games.
He and his siblings always enjoyed their annual family reunions at the old homestead in Unadilla. He could also be found catching up with friends at McDonalds almost daily.
Howard was predeceased by his wife Pauline on July 11, 2025, as well as his parents; brothers, Roger, William and Dale; and sisters, Mary, Alice and Marjorie. He is survived by his daughter, Karen (Kenneth) Shields and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was of the Episcopal faith.
There will be no services or calling hours at this time. Graveside services in Evergreen Hill Cemetery, Unadilla, and a celebration of his life may be held at a later date.
If desired, remembrances may be made to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, PO Box 182, Sidney.
