John R. "Buzzy" Boice

John R. Boice, affectionately known to all as Buzzy, 60, of Walton, NY, passed away peacefully with his family by his side after a long, hard-fought battle. True to form, he lived life to the fullest — and then some.

Born on July 8, 1965, to the late John and Ruthie Boice, Buzzy grew up in Sidney Center, attended the local elementary school, and graduated from Sidney Central School. He learned early the value of hard work and good food, which eventually meant helping his mother, Ruthie, with her catering business - beginning at the famed East Sidney Dam.

On August 26, 1989, he married the love of his life, Debra Frank, beginning a partnership filled with laughter, loyalty, and countless stories that still get retold at every gathering.

Buzzy was the life of every party and a master at "stirring the pot," especially during his legendary story times. He loved dirt track races and tractor pulls — particularly the ones he proudly sponsored over the years. He spent more than thirty years cutting stone with immense pride and precision. Skilled at the trade, he was proud to share his knowledge with anyone willing to learn.

And of course, no event was ever complete without "Buzzy's chicken." He always knew how to cook it to perfection — slightly smoky, juicy, and always served with that trademark wink and grin that said, "You're welcome, baby! Buzzy loves ya!"

He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, a true friend to many, and the kind of person who could make any day better just by showing up. They broke the mold when they made him. Somehow, Buzzy managed to live a dozen lifetimes in the one he was given.

He is survived by his loving wife, Deb Boice; his sons, Jared (Sammie), and Austin (Courtney); and his grandchildren, Wesley, Jensen, Tucker, and Sylas. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Troy and Sally Boice, Darrin and Selinda Boice, and Ted and Lisa Boice.

Friends may call on Friday, October 31, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at the Sidney Center Fire Hall, beginning at 4:00 p.m. and going "until whenever" — just the way Buzzy would want it.
