Marjorie A. Peterson

Marjorie Anne (Charles) Peterson, 92, of Unadilla, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 2, 2025, surrounded by her beloved family.

Marge was born on October 8, 1932, in Buffalo, NY, the middle of three daughters to Jay E. Charles and Mildred (Fay) Charles. She graduated from Sidney High School with the class of 1950.

On September 25, 1951, she married Nelson E. Peterson in Walton. The couple lived in Walton, Belleville, IL (while Nelson served in the Air Force), and then settled in the Town of Sidney where they lived for over 65 years. Marge worked for Amphenol for nearly 28 years while raising her family and retired in 1985.

In retirement, Marge enjoyed traveling on bus tours across the northeastern United States. She also devoted several years to volunteering at the Delaware Valley Humane Society in Sidney. Most mornings, she and Nelson could be found at a local restaurant sharing coffee and conversation with friends. At home, Marge enjoyed reading, solving crossword puzzles, and tackling hundreds of jigsaw puzzles of incredible size and complexity.

Her greatest joy in life was her family, and she was deeply proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Marge was preceded in death by her parents and her sisters Beverly Ireland and Bernita Yager.

She is survived by her husband of over 73 years, Nelson; her sons, Daniel Peterson and Dennis (Judy) Peterson; her grandchildren: Jesse (Susan) Peterson, Jessica Hook, Kevin Peterson, Kirsten (Ben) Clinton, and Justin Peterson; and her great-grandchildren: Abigail, James, Camden, and Mackenzie. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Ramona Peterson; many nieces and nephews; her former daughter-in-law, Diane Ireland; and a wide circle of family and friends who loved her deeply.

The Peterson family extends heartfelt thanks to the friends and neighbors who showed Marge and Nelson such care and companionship over the years including, among many others, Sue and Shawn Patrick, Sue and Gerry Ruestow, Mary Barnes, and Janie Balunas.

A private burial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Marge's memory may be made to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main St, Sidney, NY 13838.
