Obituary of Alton Kenneth Strong

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Alton Kenneth Strong, of Afton, NY, who passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 1st, 2025, at the age of 87. Alton, affectionately known as Ken or Pop, was a beloved husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He cherished his family above all and was known for his generosity and willingness to lend a hand or offer mentorship to those who sought his wisdom. Ken had a wealth of stories from his life, ranging from the deals he made for tractors to his hunting and camping adventures up north. He had a natural talent for building and problem-solving, becoming a self-taught fabricator and machinist. Together with his wife of 64 years, he ran a successful family business that served the community for many years. Ken's roots in the community ran deep. He served in the military, worked with the local police, and dedicated over four decades to the local fire department, where he received numerous honors for his commitment and service. His passion for cars, machines, and tractors was well-known, and he was an avid collector who enjoyed attending auctions in search of the perfect deal. Ken's life was filled with adventures that could have been the plot of a novel, especially the escapades he shared with his siblings during their youth. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Ken was predeceased by his parents Alton and Vivian Strong, three siblings Wayne, Barbara and David and his loving wife Jody Strong. Ken is survived by his sister Sharon Robinson of Endicott, his children Renee (Rich) Ramsey, Mark (Michelle) Strong and Jackie Sherman all of Afton, several grandchild and great grandchilden and his beloved cat Puffy and all 8 of his chickens. The family will receive vistors on Sunday, June 8th, 2025 at C.H. Landers Funeral Home 21 Main St. Sidney from 1 to 3pm. A graveside service laying Ken and his loving wife to rest will be held at a later date.
