Phyllis Warner Welch Obituary

Phyllis Warner Welch passed away May 28, 2025. She was 98.

Phyllis was born May 17, 1927, the daughter of Lewis and Marjorie (Gifford) Peck. She was four days old when Charles Lindbergh made the historic solo non-stop transatlantic flight from New York City to Paris, France.

Her early years were marked first by the depression of the thirties, then by the rationing of World War II. Fortunately, the family homestead on Parker Hollow Road was large enough to provide sustenance through the abundance of wild fruits, homegrown vegetables, and wild and domestic game.

Getting an early start on a family, Phyllis left home, and school, in 1943. Feeling incomplete about her education, she attended night school, eventually attaining her GED in 1965, the same year her second son, Lonnie, graduated high school.

After living in Deposit until 1950, Phyllis and first husband, Milton, returned to Parker Hollow Road, purchasing the Paul Ryder farm. Conveniences were a bit better this time, as the Hollow had acquired electricity in 1946.

Once the youngest of the six children were old enough, she went to work outside of the home. She first worked at NBT for a number of years, then for the USPS until her retirement.

Phyllis lived a long life and was allowed very good health through most of it. She greatly enjoyed family functions and enjoyed watching the younger generations play and grow.

She was predeceased by two husband, Milton (1986) and Barrett (2006); daughter, Beverly; and two daughters-in-law, Tammy and Karen, as well as by six brothers and four sisters.

Surviving are her children: Vincent (Anne), Lonnie, John (Joyce), Nancy, James and son-in-law, Melvin. Grandchildren surviving are Joy (Matt), Jerry (Joy), Chloe (Gin0), Jordan, Josh (Leslie), Jason, Timothy, Stacey (Andy), Lucy, Matthew (Kathryn), Rachel (Tim) and Megan. Surviving great-grandchildren include Madalyn, Hayle, Emilia, Easton, Donovan, Conway, Shelby, Quinn, Brandon, Emily, Caleb, Naomi, Bennett, Colette, Barrett, and Lila. Phyllis is also survived by two sisters and three brothers.

The family wishes to thank Chase Memorial Nursing Home for their constant and compassionate care.

Public memorial services will be announced at a later time.
