Obituary of Doris Lillian Crouch
Please share a memory of Doris to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Doris Lillian Crouch died peacefully on April 30, 2025, surrounded by family. Doris was born on November 5, 1921, to Sarah and Emmett Russell. She was the oldest of seven children. She graduated from Smyrna High School, one of five students in her class, which included her future husband, Clarence Crouch. She went on to attend Utica School of Commerce.
Doris married Clarence, the love of her life, on December 5, 1941, and shortly after, moved to a farm in Unadilla to start their life together and raise a family. In 1967, the family moved to a farm in Bainbridge. Throughout her married life, Doris was a devoted farm wife, homemaker and mother, helping to attend to the needs of the family, including babysitting many of her grandchildren over the years. Following Clarence’s death in 1980, she lived independently until June of 2024, a testament to her strength and resilience.
She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge, serving with the United Methodist Women, including holding various offices in the group, and she volunteered many hours to the Bainbridge Soup Kitchen, well into her elder years.
Doris was humble and quiet, unassuming and never complaining. While she typically shunned being in the spotlight, she relished being with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren for the celebration of her 100th birthday in 2021.
She was predeceased by her husband on January 11, 1980, her parents, brothers Stanley Russell and Emmett Russell, Jr., sisters Arlene Campbell and Irene Huckabone, and son-in-law Frederick Langham.
She is survived by her sister Marion Campbell, brother Stewart Russell, her children, Barbara Langham, Clifford (Barbara) Crouch, David Crouch and Dorothy (Michael) Marinaccio, grandchildren Traci (Eric) Lalicata, Sarah (Derek) Derouin, Tim (Heather) Crouch, Michelle Marinaccio Fazio, Michael (Kathryn) Marinaccio, Nick Crouch, and eight great-grandchildren, plus many nieces/nephews, and their children/grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held from 10:00am-12:00noon on Saturday, July 26, 2025 at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. A memorial service will follow at 12:00noon. Burial will take place privately in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge.
