Obituary of Olin E. McDonald Sr.

Please share a memory of Olin to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Olin McDonald, Sr. of Westerlo, NY on March 15, 2025 at St. Peter's Hospital. Born on October 17, 1936 to the late Howard and Shirley McDonald, Olin grew up in Walton, NY and was the last surviving sibling of his five brothers and sisters. Olin was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He enjoyed sharing the stories of his career in the US Navy, during which he served with honor as a young Sailor on the USS Macon (CA-132) and later as a US Navy Seabee. He was discharged in 1992 following the Persian Gulf War. Olin had a unique sense of humor and found joy in the simple things like gardening and cooking for others. He showed his love in word and deed every day. Although his physical presence may no longer grace our lives, his spirit will continue to inspire us. May his memory be a blessing, and may we carry forth his legacy of love and compassion in all that we do. Olin is survived by four children Terri Drobek, Gail Vail, Olin McDonald, Jr. and Kimberly Belden. He took a very active role in the lives of his numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild, and leaves behind countless family members and friends who will miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife of 14 years, Mary Lou McDonald and two daughters Glenda Barber and Carla McDonald. A graveside service and military honors will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Paige Cemetery in Downsville, New York. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family online at www.landersfh.com.
