Obituary of Phyllis M. Niles

Phyllis Mae Niles, 93, beloved mother and sister, formerly of Bainbridge, NY passed away peacefully March 29, 2025 in Wilmington, NC. Phyllis was born in Afton, NY on June 9, 1931 to the late Clifford and Viola Cutting, third child of 13. She graduated from Afton Central School where she greatly enjoyed band and intramural girls sports. Phyllis was employed at Borden Chemical Company in Bainbridge and was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church there. Phyllis took special joy in music, which she passed on to her children. She had a particularly strong bond with her extended family, who were her primary social group – Sunday afternoon cards games, picnics with SPUD, summer swims at Guilford Lake. She enjoyed a spirited chess match and enjoyed golf and bowling. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Donald Niles; her son, Ross Niles; her granddaughter, Anastasia Stallings; and siblings Bertha Banks, Clifford Cutting, Loren Cutting, Robert Cutting, Shirley Decker, John Cutting, Edna (Jo) Shearer, and Richard Cutting. Phyllis is survived by four children, Lenora, Denise, Donald, and Phillip, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives. She was Gramma to 6 surviving grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Phyllis is survived, also, by siblings Rose Mazzarella, Glen Cutting, Florence Strong, Elizabeth Vroman and numerous nieces, nephews, and step-grandchildren. Friends may call from 6:00-8:00pm on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 10:00am on Friday, April 4th at the funeral chapel. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, will follow. A reception for family and friends will be held at the American Legion Hall in Sidney on Friday at 12:00 pm.
