Obituary of Carol Ann Vail

Carol Ann Vail, 87, of Afton NY, passed away on March 17, 2025, at Willow Point Nursing Home. She was born on July 17, 1937, to Guy and Marion Williams. She graduated from Afton High School. She went on to college at Michigan State to be near her husband-to-be, Peter Vail, who attended Michigan University. Carol married Peter, the love of her life, on July 8, 1961. They had 4 children and Carol devoted herself to raising them. In later years, she worked at Dataflow and at the school cafeterias in Vestal and Bainbridge. Besides being an incredible mother, Carol enjoyed several hobbies including cross stitching, quilting, baking bread and her infamous chocolate chip cookies and creating memory bears. She had a deep faith, and she was a devout member of St. Ann’s Episcopal Church. She sang in the choir and volunteered in the food pantry. Her loving ways touched all she knew, including her family, friends and her beloved pets. She will be greatly missed by all. Carol was predeceased by her husband, Peter Vail; her parents Guy and Marion Williams; her sister Connie Williams and her special friend Beverly Beebe and her granddaughter Claire McSorley. She is survived by: her sister-in-law Judy Giblin; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Tom and Betty Vail and their children Kathy and Dan and families; her daughter and son-in-law Suzanne and Philip Kosick; her daughter and son-in-law Michele and Terry McSorley; her daughter and son-in-law Lisa and Jens Curtis; her son and daughter-in-law Chris and Yan Vail; seven grandchildren: Brittany, Taylor, Caitlin, Morgan, Connor, Cole and Mila; and two great grandchildren Teagan and Ellie. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the incredibly kind staff at Willow Point Nursing Home for their empathy and wonderful care. Memorial donations in Carol’s memory may be made to St. Ann’s Episcopal Church, 125 Main St., Afton, NY 13730. A visitation will be held on May 3, 2025 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney from 11:00 am until 12:00noon when a memorial service will begin. Burial will follow in Glenwood Cemetery, Afton. Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
