Obituary of James P. Barnes

James Paul "aka Jim, Jimmy, & Jimbo" Barnes, born on July 28, 1966, in Milford, Connecticut, passed away on March 14, 2025, in Sidney, New York. Jim was a devoted father to Marissa (David) Rodriguez and Connor (Meranda) Barnes and a proud grandfather to Olive Rodriguez. He shared many cherished years with his longtime love, Mary Ellen Barnes. He is also survived by his siblings Peter (Debra) Carbone, Joann (Jim) Onze, William (Teresa) Barnes, Michael Barnes, Albert (Florence) Barnes, Tina (Steve) Chartier, and Charles (Aliana) Barnes, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, William F. and Caroline J. Barnes, and his sister Kathy Delaney. Jim was a hands-on father who found immense joy in spending time with his children. He had a creative spirit and an inventive mind, often "MacGyvering" toys, tools, everything or anything from whatever was at hand. He instilled in Marissa and Connor the values of kindness, bravery, and a strong work ethic. He supported their dreams and gave them the confidence to achieve their goals. An adventurous soul, Jim had a deep appreciation for nature. He loved chasing the sun—whether watching sunsets or sunrises—and found peace in the great outdoors. He climbed the summit of Mount Washington, hiked the Presidential Range, and canoed down the Allagash River. Whether embarking on grand adventures or simply walking through the woods near his Ivoryton home, nature was his sanctuary. A remembrance gathering for Jim will be held with family and friends.
