Obituary of Charles E. Winchester

Charles E. Winchester, Wells Bridge, NY Charles E. Winchester 72 of Wells Bridge passed away unexpectedly Saturday, February 21, 2015 at his home. He was born December 8, 1942, son of the late Lereau and Bernice (Darling) Winchester in Hancock, NY. Charlie graduated from SUNY Canton 1962 with a degree in Drafting & Design and worked at Gleason Works in Rochester. In spring of 1966, he reopened the family business, Winchester Industries in Wells Bridge making ash dimension stock including baseball bats, tool handles and chair rounds. The business led him to travel throughout the United States and Japan. Charlie was most happy being at home spending time with his children & spouses and especially his six grandchildren; they were the light of his life. He was an avid hunter, a member of Wells Bridge Fire Department, enjoyed snowmobiling and other outdoor sports. He is survived by: His devoted wife, Betty Winchester, Wells Bridge and his Children: Darren (Melissa) Winchester, Hayward, WI, Therese Winchester, Mt. Vision, NY, & Tracy (Anne) Winchester, Wells Bridge; and his grandchildren, Alissa & Cassondra Garufi, Gabriel & Dylan Winchester, Trevor & Brooke Winchester. Friends may call Wednesday, February 25, 2015 from 6-9 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 26, at 11:00 AM at the funeral chapel. Burial will be in Sand Hill Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Sand Hill Community Church 133 John Cook Road Unadilla, NY 13849.
