Vernon (Vern) Wilson Miner Jr., age 79, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2017, at Wilson Hospital surrounded by his loved ones. Born June 10, 1938, in South New Berlin, NY to Vernon Sr. and Ora (Gage) Miner. Vern attended Chenango Forks Central School. He worked on the family farm and held several jobs before he was employed with the Delaware & Hudson Railroad. He was employed there for 28 years and retired as a supervisor in 1996. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed riding his Harley with his sons and grandson. He also enjoyed collecting John Deere tractors and belonged to Eastern Puller's and TOYS. Vern could be seen riding his tractor in several Sidney Hometown Parades and Memorial Day parades in Bainbridge. He also enjoyed watching western movies and old episodes of Hee Haw and the Grand Ole Opry on the RFD channel. Vern married Carlene Smith on December 22, 1956. They were married for 27 years and raised 6 children. Then on January 2, 1992, Vern married Sandy (Lambrecht) and they happily spent over 25 years together. Vern is survived by his wife, Sandy; three sons and their spouses, Rusty (Vernon III) and Susan, Dale and Denise, Robin and Susan; three daughters and their spouses, Janet and Dan Dicks, Joanne and Jim Simpkin and Jennifer and Scott Williams; one stepdaughter and her spouse, Tammy and Lou Archeval; one stepson, Tom Hatton; several grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother and his spouse, Gene and Carol; father-in-law, Warren Lambrecht; brother-in-law and his spouse, Randy and Georgie Lambrecht; sister-in-law and her spouse, Sharon and Dale Gilbert; brother-in-law, Dave Lambrecht and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, younger sister, Susan Billings, mother-in-law, Avis Lambrecht and brother-in-law, Steve Lambrecht and his beloved dog Mikey. The family will receive friends on Monday, September 18, 2017 from 11:oo a.m. to 1:00 PM at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney, NY. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with Pastor Judy McCall officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the Delaware Valley Humane Society in Sidney, NY or a charity of one's choice.
