Margaret Rozilla Tracy Cole

July 20, 1916 – August 16, 2017

 

Rockdale – Margaret R. Cole, 101, passed away early Wednesday morning, August 16th. She was born on the family homestead in Malta, Montana on July 20, 1916 to Cashel Earl and Jennie Alberta Tracy.

 

The family moved to a less harsh life in Tacoma, Washington and Margaret graduated from Lincoln High in 1934.

 

Margaret met Charles R. Cole, a handsome sailor, at a USO dance. She then traveled, by train, to New York State where she and Charles married in Guilford on March 19, 1938. They took up residence in the house in Rockdale which is still the family home after 79 years.

 

Margaret had a very busy life. She worked at Scintilla, in Sidney, for 30 years and still managed to care for her family and household. She was a great cook, loved her flower gardens and family pets, and sewed many costumes for her 2 daughters' dance recitals.  She also maintained an interest in genealogy, quilting, and shell art.

 

She was a member of the Rockdale Community Church and their young adult Group, Mt. Upton Historical Society, Sidney Elks #2175 Lifetime Member, Sidney American Legion Auxiliary, D.U.V. Tent #71, and lifetime member of the Rockdale Rod and Gun Club.

 

Margaret was predeceased by her parents; husband Charles; and brother Ernest, sister-in-law Helen, nephew Brent Tracy, Son-in-law, Robert J. Marselle and his son Michael Marselle.

 

She is survived by daughters; Marlene O'Connell of Rockwells' Mills and Englewood, FL and Patricia Marselle of Englewood, FL, grandchildren; Michael O'Connell, Ft. Collins, CO, Thomas O'Connell (Lisa), Holly Springs, NC and Jill Marselle Hoegler, Houston, TX,

6 great-grandchildren, Kaley Maccagnano, Edgewater, FL, Casey O'Connell, Bangkok, Thailand, Alexis O'Connell, Boston, Mass., Kelsie and Andie O'Connell, Holly Springs, NC, Christopher O'Connell, Fort Collins, CO

and several nieces and nephews.

The family issues a thank you to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County for their loving care and moral support. Also thanks to Daniel O'Connell of Rockwells' Mills for his additional help.

 

No services are planned at this time. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.landersfh.com. 

Burial will tkae place at a later date in East Guilford Cemetery.  Donations in Margaret's memory may be directed to Hospice and Palliative Care of Chenango County at 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815.
