Kenneth E. Shackelton Sidney, NY Kenneth E. Shackelton, 85, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in Oneonta. He was born on June 4, 1931, son of the late Frank and Hazel Shackelton in Walton, NY. Ken was a Korean War Veteran who served with honor from 1949 to 1951. During this time, he played the trombone in General McArthur's band. This band was part of the special Headquarters and Service Command Christmas show recorded for broadcast to Japan, Korea, and the USA. He was a longtime employee of Borden Chemical Company, retiring in 1993. Ken was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7914, Sidney; American Legion Post 183. He was a life member and former governor for the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 277, Sidney. He was also an avid NY Yankees baseball fan. Ken is survived by: nephew, David and his wife Carolyn Schuman (Sidney); stepdaughters: Frances Burke (Highland Park, NJ), Kathleen and Richard Herban (Sayreville, NJ) and Dorothy Burke Tribble (Richmond, Virginia); as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and grandnieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by his brother, Donald Shackelton; his sister, Elizabeth Schuman; his beloved partner of 35 years, Therese Burke; and two step-sons, William J. Burke and Thomas J. Burke. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on Sunday, June 4, 2017 in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.landersfh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
