Elton H. Ireland Afton, NY Elton H. Ireland, 89, formerly of Johnell Park Lane in Afton, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at A.O. Fox Nursing Home in Oneonta. Elton was born August 8, 1927 in Bainbridge, son of the late Maurice B. and Dora (Campbell) Ireland. He graduated from Bainbridge Central in 1945, and married Anethma Althea Cole June 3, 1950. Elton was a builder and repairer of things great and small, collector of model trains and toys from a very young age. He was a farmer for many years on Bush Hill, W. Bainbridge, after selling the farm moved to Norwich where he worked at Simmons Precision as a machinist while operating Elton's Trains Shop from his home. He maintained his own workshop for his projects and to restore his beloved Farmall tractor collection. Travel was always important to Elton, from cross country car trips to Hawaiian adventures. He was a Grange member for more than 50 years and a member of the Union Valley United Methodist Church. Surviving Elton are: his wife of 65 years, Anethma (Neep) Ireland; his sister, Phyllis I. Ruling; his sister-in-law, Nora C. Ostrander and her husband, Bill; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his parents, Elton was predeceased by his brother, Ralph O. and his wife, Florence S. Ireland, and a brother-in-law, Nelson LeGrand Ruling. Memorial service and committal will be at the convenience of the family in the West Bainbridge Cemetery. Any donation can be made in Elton's name to the Afton Emergency Squad.
